Rich tributes were paid to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University at Riyadh. He was a great visionary of the Indian sub-continent and legendary academician too. The event was organized by the Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association (AMUAA) Riyadh Chapter to mark the Sir Syed Day at Airport Marriott Hotel. The Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, H.E. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed was the Chief Guest and Engr. Fakher Al Shawaf, CEO Al Bawani Group was the Guest of Honor.
The program was initiated by AMUAA General Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abul Farah by welcoming the guests on the dais which was followed by recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an and its translation by Hassan Mansoor. The Master of Ceremony was by Dr. Faisal Zaidi. The dynamic and energetic President of AMUAA Riyadh Engr. Syed Mohammad Mutayyab welcomed the gathering and applauded the tremendous efforts of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in the formation of Aligarh Muslim University. He appealed to the audience to carry forward the Aligarian movement and contribute to nation-building. He thanked the Presidents and office bearers of the various organizations for their support. He appreciated the hard work of his present cabinet and assured that they will continue to do their best in the coming years. He acknowledged the presence of distinguished guests, the Aligs, heads of various social organizations and institutions, media and students. He thanked all for making this event a memorable one.
Chief Guest of the evening Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Ambassador of India highlighted the vision and works of Sir Syed Ahmed, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University. He stressed that the best tribute to Sir Syed would be to carry forward the Aligarh movement forward. He gave several historical accounts of the relationship between AMU and the Nizam of Hyderabad. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed is an alumnus of Osmania University. Guest of Honor Engr. Fakher Al Shawaf, CEO Al Bawani Group also paid glowing tributes to Sir Syed on this occasion.
Winners of several competitions like sports, elocution, essay writing, drawing etc. were awarded on this occasion. Special mementos were awarded to Mohammed Ghazanfar Ali Khan in the field of Journalism and Salman Khalid for social services. AMU anthem was presented by the Tarana team and school children led the national anthems of India and Saudi Arabia. Vote of thanks was proposed by AMUAAR Vice President Engr. Humayun Hashmi. This was followed by the gala dinner of Riyadh Airport Marriott.
