New Delhi – Veteran TV news anchor and a very popular face of Doordarshan (DD) News, Neelum Sharma is no more. She was associated with DD for over two decades.
Confirming the shocking news, DD News took to Twitter and wrote that the channel is mourning passing away of our dear colleague Neelum Sharma. A founding anchor with over 20 years of association with DD news, she had played a stellar role in many capacities. The cause of her death is reported to be cancer.

Expressing grief over the loss of the star anchor, Additional DG of DD News wrote on his Twitter handle, “DD News mourns passing away of our dear Colleague Neelum Sharma, a founding anchor with over 20 years of association with DD News. She played a stellar role in many capacities. From ‘Badi Charcha’ to ‘Tejasvini’ her path-breaking progs won accolades including Nari Shakti Award.”
The anchor of programs such as ‘Badi Charcha’ and ‘Tejasvi was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar.
A strong advocate for women empowerment, Neelum Sharma was known was her programs like ‘Tejaswini’ and ‘Badi Charcha’ and had been awarded the Nari Shakti Puruskar by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018.
As part of her ‘Tejasvini’ program, Sharma highlighted the achievements of woman achievers from the remotest parts of India who went on to become role models for the society.
