RIYADH – Embassy of India Riyadh celebrated 10th International Yoga Day in association with Saudi Yoga Committee (Saudi Ministry of Sports). The celebration under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society” was part of the 2024 International Day of Yoga. According to the press release issued by the Embassy of India in Riyadh, the Yoga Day 2024 celebration took place on June 21, 2024 at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Olympic Complex.
Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan in his welcome address spoke about the need for adopting Yoga as part of daily life and the health benefits of Yoga. He also spoke about the role of Yoga for an individual as well as for society. President of Saudi Yoga Committee and Padma Shri awardee Ms. Nouf Al Marwai and Ms. Rajashree Choudhary, President, International Yoga Sports Federation graced the occasion with their presence.
The Yoga demonstration started with Yoga prayer followed by performing Common Yoga Protocol. It was followed by Pranayamam and Meditation exercises. The Common Yoga Protocol was led by Ms. Alhanouf Saad from Saudi Yoga Committee.
A large number of Indian community members, Indian diplomats, their families, diplomats of other countries, officials of the Saudi Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Tourism, teachers, students participated in the event.
Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan presented mementos to Chief Guests, Yoga instructor, and Medical support team.
The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.
This year marks the 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.” Yoga, a transformative practice, represents the harmony of mind and body, the balance between thought and action, and the unity of restraint and fulfillment. It integrates the body, mind, spirit, and soul, offering a holistic approach to health and well-being that brings peace to our hectic lives. Its power to transform is what we celebrate on this special day.
