RIYADH – Medical insurance holds significant importance for employees, especially since foreigners are not eligible for treatment at government hospitals in Saudi Arabia. In a proactive move, the Insurance Council of Health Insurance, Saudi Arabia has announced measures against employers who fail to comply with the mandatory medical insurance regulations for their workers and their families.

According to Article 14 of the law, employers are mandated to provide medical insurance to their employees and their dependents. The council emphasizes that meeting these legal requirements is non-negotiable and employers are bound by law to secure mandatory medical insurance for their workers and their families.

The Council of Health Insurance has made it clear that any violation of these regulations will compel employers to comply by providing medical insurance for their employees and their dependents, or face penalties. Failure to do so will result in a fine equivalent to the annual policy premium for each uninsured individual. Furthermore, the issuance of visas for such non-compliant institutions will be temporarily or permanently suspended.

Iman Al-Tariqi, the council’s spokesperson for medical insurance, reiterated that obtaining a medical insurance policy is a fundamental right of workers. To safeguard these rights, the council has mandated that employers must rigorously adhere to the established regulations.
