RIYADH – The Embassy of India in Riyadh celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India today with immense patriotic zeal and widespread community participation. The vibrant ceremony, held at the Embassy premises, was attended by an enthusiastic gathering of approximately one thousand people, including members of the Indian community, Embassy officials, journalists, and friends of India in the Kingdom.
The celebrations began with the ceremonial hoisting of the Indian tricolour by His Excellency, Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, followed by a collective rendition of the national anthem. In a solemn tribute, Ambassador Khan paid homage to the Father of the Nation by laying a floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Khan read out the Honerable President of India’s message to the nation and to Indians around the world. In his keynote address, the Ambassador highlighted the close and strengthening bilateral partnership between India and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He specifically lauded the significant role played by the Indian diaspora, whose contributions he described as vital in making the India-Saudi relationship both vibrant and robust.
The formal proceedings were followed by a cultural program that showcased the rich diversity of India. Members of the Indian community presented an eclectic mix of patriotic songs and classical dance performances, which were met with warm appreciation from the audience. Following the event, Ambassador Khan took the opportunity to interact with members of the community.
In the lead-up to Independence Day, the Embassy also organized several initiatives to foster a spirit of national pride and civic responsibility. Embassy officials, their families, and community members enthusiastically participated in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, displaying their unwavering pride in the national flag. Furthermore, a special cleanliness drive under the ‘Har Ghar Swachhata’ campaign was organized at the Embassy to promote a clean and pleasant workplace and to reinforce a spirit of service and efficiency.
The event concluded successfully, reflecting the deep-rooted patriotism of the Indian community in Riyadh and celebrating the strong bonds of friendship between India and Saudi Arabia.
