
RIYADH – The Indian diaspora in Riyadh commemorated India’s 79th Independence Day with a vibrant celebration held at Al Yasmin International School. The event, organized by Dr. Idris Salim Gaur, Manager of Al Shifa Clinic, and his team, brought together a large number of community leaders, dignitaries, and families in a display of national pride and unity.
The festivities commenced with a series of patriotic songs performed by Raheem Uppala and his group, setting a jubilant tone for the evening. Visiting guest Mr. Azhar Khan, supported by Mr. Saqib, anchored the event, guiding attendees through the program.
A key highlight of the celebration was the traditional cake-cutting ceremony, which saw the participation of leaders from various social organizations alongside Saudi friends, symbolizing the strong ties between the two communities. In a moment of collective respect, all attendees stood for the Indian National Anthem, “Jana Gana Mana.”
The event also served as an occasion to recognize the contributions of prominent community members. Dr. Idris Salim Khan Gaur, Dr. Mohammed Ashraf, L&T CEO Nidhi Kumar, Syed Aftab Nizami, Ghulam Khan, and others were honored with floral bouquets.




In a concise and impactful address, Rajasthani community leader and social worker, Mr. Ghulam Khan, reflected on India’s freedom struggle and emphasized the contemporary responsibilities of its citizens.
The cultural segment of the evening featured energetic dance performances and a medley of patriotic and popular Bollywood songs by Raheem and his group. The Young Talents Group Singers, Syed Sayeed and Mirza Omer Baig, also captivated the audience with their performance.
Attendees expressed their happiness at the event, noting that the gathering of people from all states of India was a powerful sign of the nation’s unity and integrity. The celebration concluded with a sumptuous dinner, providing an opportunity for community members to interact and strengthen their bonds.
