
Jeddah: Marking India’s 79th Independence Day, the OICC Western Regional Committee hosted a memorable celebration that united patriotic pride, cultural vibrancy, and thought-provoking sessions.
The event began with the hoisting of the national flag by Regional Committee President Hakeem Parakkal. The day’s program featured patriotic songs, history awareness sessions, a stress management workshop, quiz competitions, a musical evening, dance performances, poetry recitation, and a solidarity meeting in support of Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing struggle for the protection of democracy.
Inaugurating the function, KPCC member and former State General Secretary of the Youth Congress, Mr. Adam Mulsi, underscored the Congress party’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle. He criticized other parties for undermining the movement and asserted that, despite the attempts to distort history, the people of India will discern the truth.
Trainer and psychologist Fasih Eranjikkal conducted a session on stress management, while Iqbal Pokkun, former KPCC Digital Media Cell member, delivered a visual presentation titled “Timeline of Indian History”, tracing key moments in the freedom struggle and nation-building process.
The cultural segment, coordinated by the Priyadarshini Arts & Sports Forum under the leadership of General Convener Mirza Shareef, featured performances by renowned singers including Sofia Sunil, Simi Abdul Khader, Harris Kannur, Rafi Aluva, Moushmi Shareef, and others. Poetry was recited by Shaji Chemmal, while children presented dance performances led by Sreetha Teacher and Neha Krishna.




Regional Committee leaders Saheer Manjali, Radhakrishnan Kavumbayi, Azeez Poroor, Mujeeb Thrittala, Global Committee member Ali Thekethod and National Committee Secretary Anil Kumar conveyed greetings. General Secretary Ashhab Varkala welcomed the gathering, and Treasurer Shareef Arakkal delivered the vote of thanks.
The event was joined and reinforced by district and area committee leaders including Kunjan Pookkattil, Abdul Khader Aluva, Rashid Varkala, Naser Wayanad, Ahmad Shani, Basheer Paruthikunnan, Shanu Karaman, Sameer Kalikavu, Shibu Kalikavu, Jaleel Poroor, M.T. Gafoor, Baiju Edava, and Riyas Kozhikode.
The celebrations reflected the spirit of national pride, rich cultural heritage, and unwavering support for democratic values.
