JEDDAH – The Thiruvananthapuram Swadeshi Sangamam (TSS) in Jeddah celebrated Onam at the Palm Oasis Auditorium in Harasat, offering a festival filled with variety and novelty. The event brought families and communities together with traditional art forms, games, music, and the grand Onasadya feast. Beyond the flowers, pookalam, it symbolized the harmony and the spirit of sharing, reminding that joy multiplies when celebrated with others connecting back to their roots.
The celebrations, which began at 11 a.m. on September 12, were inaugurated by TSS President Tharun Retnakaran. Traditional performances including Thiruvathirakali, Onappattu (songs), Onakalikal (games), and infotainment programs staged by TSS members brought out the grandeur and essence of the festival, filling the Malayali expatriate community with festive spirit. The highlight remains the traditional Onasadya feast, served on banana leaves, lovingly prepared in true Thiruvananthapuram style by the TSS Women’s Forum members, carried the nostalgic flavours of home, featuring delicious dishes. A unique Atham floral design in the form of a Kathakali face with movable eyes fascinated the audience and offered a refreshing experience that teaches us that true happiness lies in unity, sharing, and living in harmony with each other and with nature.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic appearance of Mahabali — portrayed in a majestic costume with a golden crown and flowing moustache. Interacting warmly with the audience, this living image of the legendary ruler evoked memories of his golden reign of prosperity, equality, and justice.
The event, held in the presence of prominent personalities from Jeddah’s social and cultural circles, also honoured students excelling in various fields with educational awards.
With entertaining programs like tug-of-war, musical chairs, and more, the event titled “Arpo Irro…. Onam 2025” came alive with vibrant diversity. Even the elders, who usually prefer the spectator’s seat, jumped into the fun — proving that Onam spirit take back them to their yester years.
General Secretary Jaffar Shareef Pallippuram delivered the welcome address, and Treasurer Shahin Shajahan expressed the vote of thanks. The TSS executive members coordinated the entire celebration.
The day was so festive that everyone wished it had a replay button — with celebrations in full swing, the joy flowed so freely that the only thing faster than the laughter was how quickly the day came to an end.
