RIYADH – The Embassy of India, Riyadh, marked the third day of its annual “Pravasi Parichay” cultural festival with a vibrant celebration of five Indian states, captivating audiences with performances from Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
The day’s events, held on October 30, commenced with an energetic cultural parade flagged off by the Ambassador of India, Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan. The parade featured lively and traditional performances including the Chenda Melam, Nasik Dhol, Thalapoli, and a performance by the School Band Melam, setting a celebratory tone for the evening.
Following the parade, the main cultural program began at the Embassy Auditorium with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Ambassador Khan, joined by state coordinators and steering committee members.
The evening was a rich tapestry of India’s diverse traditions, with performances highlighting the unique cultural identity of each state:
- Kerala: The state’s artistic heritage was presented through the graceful Mohiniyattam, the energetic Thiruvadira dance, the vibrant Oppana dance, and a unique Kerala Fusion Dance blending traditional and contemporary styles.
- Uttar Pradesh: A mesmerizing Qawwali performance showcased the state’s rich cross-cultural heritage.
- Delhi: A lively Group Dance presented a blend of the capital’s traditional and modern cultural expressions.
- Rajasthan: The desert state’s culture was brought to life through colorful dance performances, soulful Rajasthani Folk Songs, and a humorous Rajasthani Comedy Skit.
- Haryana: A dynamic Group Cultural Dance featuring local folk traditions was well-appreciated by the audience.
“Pravasi Parichay,” now in its third edition, is a week-long festival running from October 28 to November 3, 2025. Organized by the Embassy in partnership with Indian diaspora associations in Saudi Arabia, the event celebrates India’s diverse cultural heritage through state-themed days. The festival, which coincides with National Unity Day on October 31, reinforces India’s core value of “unity in diversity.”
The festival offers a prominent platform for the Indian community in Saudi Arabia to showcase India’s diverse cultural and art forms. Three more state-day cultural programs are scheduled for October 31, November 1, and November 2, promising further outstanding displays of India’s multifaceted artistic traditions.
