RIYADH – The Indian Embassy in Riyadh transformed into a vibrant hub of patriotism on Monday as it marked the 77th Republic Day of India. The event saw a robust gathering of nearly five hundred attendees, ranging from distinguished Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awardees and embassy officials to members of the Indian diaspora and local media representatives.
The Ceremonial Commencement
The celebrations began with a formal ceremony led by Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, who unfurled the Indian national flag. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as the notes of the National Anthem echoed through the embassy grounds.
Following the flag hoisting, the Ambassador paid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, a symbolic gesture honoring the foundations of the sovereign republic. A key highlight of the morning was the Ambassador’s reading of the Honorable President’s message, which extended greetings to the nation and the global Indian community, reflecting on India’s progress and democratic resilience.
A Cultural Tribute to ‘Vande Mataram’
The event transitioned into a spirited showcase of India’s cultural diversity. Performances by school children and community members included:
- Classical and Contemporary Dance: A blend of traditional forms and modern choreography.
- Patriotic Medleys: Songs that captured the spirit of the occasion.
- The 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram: Special performances were dedicated to celebrating a century and a half of India’s National Song.
To further commemorate this milestone, the Embassy installed a dedicated photo booth highlighting the historical significance of Vande Mataram, which became a popular attraction for the attendees.
Community Engagement
The formal proceedings concluded with a warm interaction between Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan and the members of the Indian diaspora. The Ambassador also engaged with local journalists, emphasizing the strengthening ties between India and Saudi Arabia and the vital role the community plays in fostering bilateral relations.
