RIYADH — In observance of the blessed month of Ramadan, the Bihar Community Service (BCS) Riyadh chapter successfully organized a “Grand Zakat Awareness Program,” bringing together community leaders, philanthropists, and expatriates to highlight the transformative socioeconomic power of Zakat.
The event was spearheaded by BCS President Mr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Vice President Mr. Abdul Khallaq, Secretary Mr. Merajun Nabi, and their dedicated executive team. The gathering sought to educate the diaspora on how a structured, Islamically compliant Zakat distribution system can serve as a definitive tool for poverty alleviation.
Distinguished Guests and Keynote Insights
The organization warmly welcomed the event’s Chief Guest, Dr. Idrees Saleem Khan, a highly respected and prominent figure within the Riyadh community. Upon arrival, Dr. Khan and other esteemed guests were received with floral bouquets and special gifts, reflecting the traditional hospitality of the BCS team.
The core of the evening centered around educational addresses by guest speakers Mr. Salman and Mr. Abdul Mueed Naveed. Both speakers delivered compelling presentations on the conceptual framework and practical implementation of the Zakat system. Drawing attention to the systemic issues of poverty within the Muslim world, they shared a thought-provoking observation with the audience:
“When the Muslim community of a country begins to beg, it means that the Zakat-distribution system of that country is not functioning in accordance with Islamic principles. For example, if out of 250 million Muslims, only 20 million Muslims give merely one lakh rupees as Zakat annually, it will total 20,000 crore rupees—an amount sufficient to eliminate poverty, InshaAllah.”
Celebrating Milestones and Community Impact
During the proceedings, President Mr. Mahfuzur Rahman took the stage to brief the attendees on the organization’s recent achievements and ongoing philanthropic projects.
Dr. Idrees Saleem Khan addressed the gathering to express his profound appreciation for the organization’s swift growth and impactful grassroots initiatives. He commended the BCS leadership and urged the members to remain steadfast in their noble mission of uplifting marginalized communities.
Conclusion and Fellowship
The formal proceedings drew to a close with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Vice President Mr. Abdul Khallaq, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, speakers, and all attendees for their unwavering support. Following the program, the guests and members participated in a fellowship dinner, sharing a meticulously prepared meal at the Indian Garden Restaurant.
