Grand Celebration of India’s 77th Independence Day at Riyadh.

RIYADH – The Embassy of India celebrated the 77th Independence Day with members of the Indian community and friends of India in Riyadh on Tuesday. The event saw enthusiastic participation of more than five hundred people which included Indian Embassy officials, journalists, and members of the Indian community.

The celebration began with the hoisting of the tricolor by H.E. Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Ambassador read out Hon’ble President’s message to the Nation and Indians around the world on this occasion. In his own address to the gathering, Ambassador spoke about the strengthening of the India-Saudi Arabia relationship and conveyed best wishes to the Indian Diaspora. He spoke about the Amrit Kaal and resolves to Make India a Developed Nation by 2047.

The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a cultural program presented by members of the Indian diaspora. A photo exhibition on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was also showcased during the celebration. Winners of recently held Online Freedom Quiz conducted by Indian Embassy were felicitated during the event.

This Independence Day marks the culmination of celebrations of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, commemorating 75 years of India’s independence which  officially began on 12 March 2021. In Saudi Arabia, the Embassy has hosted a number of iconic events, with full Jan Bhagidari, including many cultural events, film festivals, a golf tournament, distinguished speaker series, yoga events, multiple exhibitions etc. This commemoration coincided with the 75th anniversary of India and Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic relationship.

This year the Government of India is specially observing the “Meri Maati Mera Desh”, My Motherland, My Country campaign, paying respects to our motherland and remembering all those who have sacrificed their lives for safety and security of the nation. The campaign was celebrated by the Embassy in a special event on 12 August 2023 with the participation of the community. The Embassy families and Indian Community have also taken part in Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
