JEDDAH – The Consulate General of India, Jeddah, in association with International Indian School, Jeddah, celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024. This event was organized at the auditorium of the International Indian School, Jeddah on 21 June 2024.
In his welcome address Consul General of India in Jeddah Mohd. Shahid Alam spoke about the significance of adopting Yoga in daily life. He highlighted the importance of benefit of practice yoga for personal wellbeing and the society as a whole. The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga is “Yoga for Self and Society”.
The celebration started with playing on screen the address delivered by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi during the 10th International Day of Yoga (IYD) event in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir on 21 June 2024. It was followed by “Yoga Dance” by a group of students from Indian Community in Jeddah and video message of ICCR highlighting the past 10 years celebrations of International Day of Yoga. The Common Yoga Protocol was led by Mrs. Salwa Al-Madani, who is a Yoga teacher in CGI, Jeddah and Mrs. Irum Khan, a Yoga instructor certified by the Yoga Institute of India, Mumbai and teaching Yoga in Saudi Arabia since last15 years.
The event was attended by Consulate General of India officials with their families, Indian community members, Principal, Vice Principal, teachers and students of International Indian School, Jeddah and local Yoga enthusiasts.
The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.
This year marks the 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.” Yoga, a transformative practice, represents the harmony of mind and body, the balance between thought and action, and the unity of restraint and fulfillment. It integrates the body, mind, spirit, and soul, offering a holistic approach to health and well-being that brings peace to our hectic lives. Its power to transform is what we celebrate on this special day.
