New Delhi, India – In a decisive response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, which tragically claimed the lives of 26 civilians, the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force executed a coordinated tri-services operation, codenamed “Operation Sindoor,” targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The precision strikes were conducted at approximately 1:44 am, marking the first such joint operation by the three branches of the Indian military since 1971.
The Indian government stated that the operation targeted specific locations from where terrorist attacks against India were being planned and directed. A total of nine sites were struck overnight. In a statement released following the operation, India emphasized the focused and non-escalatory nature of its actions, asserting that “No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution.” The statement further underlined India’s commitment to holding those responsible for the Pahalgam attack accountable.
Announcing “Operation Sindoor” via a post on social media platform X, the Indian Army declared, “Justice is served.” Government sources indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was closely monitoring the operation throughout the night. Both the army and the government reiterated that the strikes were “focused,” “calibrated,” and “non-escalatory,” specifically targeting terrorist camps linked to the planning and execution of the Pahalgam attack.
Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, confirmed that India had struck sites in Kotli, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Chak Amru, Bhimber, Gulpur, Sialkot, and two locations in Muzaffarabad. Notably, Muridke is the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), led by Hafiz Saeed, and Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s Punjab province serves as the base for Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), an organization headed by Masood Azhar.
Subsequently, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the Indian military strikes, labeling them an “act of war imposed by India.” He further stated, “Pakistan has every right to respond forcefully to this act of war imposed by India, and a forceful response is being given.”
The international community is closely observing the developments in the region following India’s “Operation Sindoor” and Pakistan’s subsequent response.
