RIYADH – India on Thursday marked 78 years since it attained freedom from the British Empire. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh celebrated the Independence Day on a grand scale with enthusiasm and fervor. Despite Thursday being the working day in Saudi Arabia and the intense heat, men, women and children assembled in large numbers in their colorful costumes.
Ambassador of India Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan began the ceremony by hoisting the national flag at 07:30 am. After which he read the message of the President’s of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu. Addressing the audience after the President’s message, the Ambassador said that the number of Indians in Saudi Arabia has increased in the last one year. Now the current number of these Indians has reached to 2.65 millions. He said that the Indians in Saudi Arabia play a significant role in the progress and development of Saudi Arabia. Indian are looked upon with respect I the Kingdom, he added.
Dr. Suhel warm heartedly congratulated all Indians on Independence Day of India. He thanked the audience for attending this National festival in such a large number. The Ambassador of India thanked the Indian community’s social workers for their continued support.
Finally, members of the Indian community presented a colorful cultural program. Diplomat Rishi Tripathi performed the duties of moderating the event. Sweets were presented to the attendees.
