Riyadh – Women from different walks of life who excelled in their field of work were honored by Bazm-e-Urdu Toastmasters Club (BUTMC), Riyadh at a grand event held on the occasion of Women’s Day. Mrs. Zeenat Jafri, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awardee graced the occasion as Chief Guest of the Event. She presented the outstanding achievement Awards to seven prominent women who were felicitated on this occasion.

Social media sensation of the recent weeks, young and dashing Indian loco pilot of Riyadh Metro, Indira Lokesh was presented with the youth icon award. She was appreciated for her life-long struggle to break many barriers. Hailing from the remote village of Guntur District and belonging to the family of all female siblings, she fought back many odds and crossed several hurdles in life to complete Masters in Computer Applications and then serving Hyderabad metro rail for three years before joining Riyadh metro. She is now working as Station Operations Manager. She is responsible for several trains and needs to operate them as and when required.

Next recipient of the award of excellence was Mrs. Laxmi Devi Rachamallu, Head Nurse at the emergency section of King Fahad Medical City (KFMC) Riyadh. She is rendering her services in Saudi Arabia from the past seventeen years. Prior to that she worked at Hyderabad’s Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences. She has been recently honored with the most coveted global award in nursing DAISY award. This international award is conferred by the daisy foundation every year to honor compassionate nurses nominated by patients, families and colleagues for the exceptional care they provide.

Prominent OB & Gynecologist Dr. Shahina Ahmed was presented the award of excellence for her contributions and services to the community in medical field. She has special interest in management of infertility issues and rendering her services in Saudi Arabia for the past 24 years. She is working at Olaya Medical Center for the past 15 years. Her medical acumen and pleasant rapport with the patient community in Riyadh is well known.

Prominent Urdu poet and teacher by profession Mrs. Asna Badr received the award of excellence for her literary work in Urdu poetry. Very active on social media platforms, eminent journalist Vinod Dua and lyrcist Javed Akhter appreciated her poetry. Vinod dua recited three of her poems in his famous show on social media.

Recipient of last year’s Tejaswini Samman Award by Ranchi Press Club in Jharkhand, journalist, social activist and founder president of Global Jharkhand Welfare Association (GJWA) Mrs. Shahzeen Eram received the award of excellence for her services and contributions in Journalism and social activism. She is the first woman to form and lead expat’s community organization in Saudi Arabia.

Eminent contemporary visual artist Mrs. Sabiha Majeed Siddiqui, recipient of Maharana Fateh Singh award in 1990, associated with Synergy Arts group, Riyadh and who organized many exhibitions of her artwork was presented the award of excellence in arts. As she was in India for vacation, her husband Ayaz Siddiqui received the award on her behalf.

Educationalist and Academic Director of Success International School, Riyadh Mrs. Majida Amir was recognized by presenting the award of excellence in Education. She, along with her husband established Success International School in 2013. With her dedication and hard work the school got 1A rank in the site of Saudi Ministry of Education. Her husband, Director Success International School Mr. Syed N Masood received the award on her behalf as she could not attend the event due to some personal reasons.

Prominent journalist, columnist and khaka nigaar K. N. Wasif read a sketch “Riyadh ki mother India” dedicated to the chief guest Mrs. Zeenat Jafri.

Vice Principal International Indian School Riyadh and Distinguished Toastmaster Mrs. Mymoona Abbas highlighted the benefits and concept of Toastmasters meetings. She was felicitated by presenting shawl and gift.

Emcee Mrs. Kauser Fatima conducted the proceedings of the event eloquently. Memento of appreciation was presented to her.

President of Bazme Urdu Toastmasters Club Mohammed Saifuddin presented the plaque of appreciation to the chief guest Mrs. Zeenat Jafri.

Senior Toastmaster Abdul Quddus Javed performed the role of sergeant at arms and welcomed the audience. Secretary Bazme Urdu Toastmasters club Syed Ateeq Ahmed delivered vote of thanks. Dr. Sayeed Mohiuddin was exclusively assigned the task of photography and video for this event.

Prominent community leaders Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee Shihab Kuttukud, All India Steering Committee chairman Zaigham Khan, President Osmania University Alumni Association Riyadh Sultan Mazharuddin, Dr. Mohammed Ashraf Ali, President, All India United Society, Vice President Saudi Indian Healthcare Forum Dr. Anwar Khursheed, President, Association of Indian Researchers & Scientists, Misbahul Arifeen, Coordinator Saudi Arabian Telugu Association (SATA) Muzammil and SATA women’s wing president Mrs. Sucharita Kandula and several other members of the Indian community graced the event in large numbers.
