RIYADH – The 75th Republic Day celebrations at the Embassy of India in Riyadh were celebrated with traditional fervor. The event saw enthusiastic participation of more than five hundred people which included Indian Embassy officials, journalists, and members of the Indian community.
Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan inaugurated the event by unfurling the national tricolor in the Embassy premises. After which he read out the message of the President of the Republic of India to the nation. On this occasion, Dr. Suhel addressed the guests and said that the special feature and importance of Republic Day is that on this day we have adopted the Constitution of India and our progress towards the Amrit Kaal.
While thanking the women, the Ambassador of India also said that the country is moving fast on the path of development. Before the address, Dr. Suhel unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi installed in the Embassy compound and paid tribute.
The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a cultural program presented by members of the Indian diaspora. Students of International Indian School in Riyadh and International Indian Public School in Riyadh performed patriotic themed Dances. Students of Vaidehi Nrita Vidhyalaya performed Classical dance followed by patriotic song. Participants were felicitated at the end of the celebration. Slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” were also being raised in the euphoric atmosphere of the embassy. Due to the weekly Friday holiday in Saudi Arabia, the event was attended by such a large number of the community that the vast embassy premises were complaining of overcrowding. The guests, diplomats and community members congratulated each other on Republic Day.
