Riyadh – The vibrant Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia gathered in large numbers to bid a memorable and grand farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of India, Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan. Organized under the auspices of the All India Steering Committee, the high-profile ceremony took place at the prestigious Hotel Holiday Inn Al-Qasr in the Olaya district of Riyadh. The gala brought together an array of notable dignitaries, embassy officials, and key regional leaders. Prominent figures in attendance included Deputy Chief of Mission Shri Abu Mathen George, along with a vast assembly of heads of diverse community organizations and cultural groups who collectively felicitated the diplomat. During the reception, Ambassador Khan took the opportunity to commend the expansive community for its exemplary spirit of volunteerism and its unyielding efforts to promote Indian cultural values within the Kingdom. He specifically highlighted the invaluable role played by the diaspora in fortifying the historical and contemporary strategic ties binding India and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the Ambassador extended special appreciation to the Indian business community, represented significantly by major trade bodies like the India Business Forum, for acting as a crucial bridge in multiplying bilateral trade and driving economic cooperation between the two nations. Concluding his address, Dr. Khan reassured the gathering of the mission’s persistent baseline operations, emphasizing that the Embassy of India in Riyadh remains deeply committed to serving the needs of the diaspora with unwavering integrity.
The farewell event also served to reflect upon a series of significant strategic milestones achieved during Ambassador Khan’s tenure, which greatly deepened India–Saudi Arabia relations. Prominent among these was the signing of a landmark bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cultural Cooperation in Riyadh, executed by India’s Minister of Culture and Tourism alongside his Saudi counterpart, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, to foster long-term exchange across the arts and heritage sectors. Furthermore, the economic partnership saw concrete operational expansion with the formalization of a strategic MoU on Water Resources Cooperation. This agreement, signed by Ambassador Khan and the Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen AlFadley during Saudi Water Week in Jeddah, successfully established joint frameworks for sustainable water management and technical collaboration. These institutional breakthroughs, alongside growing commercial joint ventures, underscore a legacy of accelerated bilateral growth and enduring diplomatic synergy.
