RIYADH — The Embassy of India in Riyadh came alive with patriotic pride on Saturday morning as nearly a thousand members of the Indian diaspora, media representatives, and diplomatic friends gathered to celebrate the country’s 80th Independence Day.
The morning assembly began with a soulful rendering of the National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’. Ambassador Vipul then unfurled the Indian Tricolour, which was immediately followed by the solemn singing of the National Anthem.
Paying homage to the nation’s foundational ideals, Ambassador Vipul laid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi before delivering the Hon’ble President’s address to the nation.
In his keynote address, the envoy emphasized the dynamic and expanding bilateral strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia. He expressed deep gratitude to the expatriate community, highlighting their instrumental role in forging stronger socio-economic bridges between the two nations.
The solemnity of the morning gave way to a vibrant cultural showcase presented by community members. The performances captured India’s rich heritage through classical dance forms and patriotic melodies. A key highlight was a special artistic segment commemorating the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’. Ambassador Vipul later felicitated the artists and presented awards to the winners of the ‘Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz’ before spending time interacting directly with community representatives.
The event held added global resonance as the Riyadh embassy joined the “Suryapath Tiranga” relay. Organised under the overarching “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, this global initiative tracked the sun’s movement from east to west, linking Indian diplomatic missions across time zones—from Fiji to San Francisco—in a continuous chain of flag-hoisting ceremonies.
Similar commemorative gatherings unfolded at Indian consulates across the Gulf region today, including Jeddah, Qatar, Dubai, Kuwait etc. where diplomats praised the diaspora’s enduring contributions to local development.
