RIYADH — Indian Embassy Riyadh nightingale Vasundhara Raturi enthralled the audience at EOI Auditorium, Diplomatic Quarters, Riyadh. Her melodic rendition of popular ghazals and evergreen Bollywood songs in “Shaam-e-Ghazal Event kept the audience spellbound. While another Singer from Saudi Arabia mesmerized everybody in the jampacked auditorium and brought them to their toes with peppy numbers.
A large number of Indian diaspora attended this event organized by the All India United Society (AIUS), Riyadh. Charge d’affaire H.E. N. Ram Prasad graced the ocassion as Chief Guest. Eng. Nayeemuddin, CEO Masah Specialized Construction Company and Sajan Lathif, CEO Nowa Awast Co were the Guests of Honor. Nayeem Abdul Qayyum was the Master of the ceremony. A large number of India Diplomats also witnessed this event.
Ghazal, a popular genre in the subcontinent, is a poetic form with rhyming couplets and a refrain, each line sharing the same meter.
Vasundhara Raturi of “Sa Re Ga Ma Little Champs” fame started with a popular ghazal based on Raag Yaman which is an evening Raga according to Indian Classical Music.
Vasundhara Raturi is a versatile singer, who has been performing since her childhood. She is a little Singing Angel who has stolen millions of hearts with her Golden and harmonious voice. She lost her vision due to atrophy in her optic nerves at the age of one year. She is immensely fond of music and has shown her extraordinary talent to the whole world by singing in her melodious and mesmeric voice.
She was born in Lebanon and gave her first stage performance in the USA when she was 5 years old. She was well known as “baby sonal” In New York. Vasundhara proved her singing talent by performing in various Indian reality shows. Vasundhara gained name and fame by participating in the most popular reality show ” Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs 2007-2008 ” telecasted on Zee T.V. She took part in other reality shows as well. Some of them are “Ustaadon Ka Ustaad” telecasted on Sony T.V and “Chhota Packet Bada Dhamaka” telecasted on Zee T.V.
She also helped to raise funds to support differently-abled people by performing in charity shows in India, Dubai and different cities in the United States of America. She is committed to the upliftment of differently-abled persons, orphans and tribal children through education.
Vasundhara thanked team AIUS and its President Dr. Mohammed Ashraf Ali for organizing this event. She added that the Indian diaspora has always encouraged her and provided her with opportunities to perform in Riyadh. “The Indian community in Riyadh are real music lovers and have a vast knowledge about the music and that is why I enjoy performing in Riyadh,” she added.
The Showstopper proved to be Reem Mohammed Hassan, a gorgeous Saudi female Singer who electrified the atmosphere with her energetic performance of Bollywood songs. Though she doesn’t understand Hindi well, her rendition of Hindi songs left the audience jaw-dropping. The Chief Guest of the evening, Charge De Affairs, H.E. N. Ram Prasad said that when the daughter of Indian Embassy Vasundhara is leaving the Kingdom, we have found another daughter in Reem. He called Reem as the nightingale for the Indian community.
Omer Baig, Syed Sajid Jaleel and others presented Bollywood songs and ghazals. AIUS President Dr. Mohammed Ashraf Ali briefed the various activities of his organization. He thanked his team members who worked hard day in and day out to put up this grand spectacular show which will be remembered for a long time.
