Riyadh – The army is considered a proud segment of our society. Not only it, but the government also tries to provide every facility to the military personnel. This was said by Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan. He was addressing the “Veer Yudha Samman Diwas” ceremony held at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh. While congratulating the ex-servicemen and their families present at the ceremony, he said that Veer Yudha Diwas is celebrated every year to pay tribute to the defenders of our borders. Apart from this, Flag Day is celebrated on 7th December and Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 16th December to mark our victories in previous wars.
At the beginning, Defense Attaché Colonel Sarabjit Singh said in his welcome remarks that if our army was not so strong, the map of India would not be like it is today. He said that the army not only protects our borders but also deploys battalions in such areas if the situation inside the country becomes uncontrollable or if an area is hit by natural disasters. Colonel Singh thanked the ex-servicemen, their families and community members present there for their large participation.
On this occasion, the students of International School Riyadh presented a skit and dance. The skit Love towards mother land written and presented by Mrs. Faiza Sultan enthralled the audience.
The event was also addressed by former army officers Shankar Man Rai, Iqbal Abid and Uma Shankar Naik, besides Pravasi Bharatiya Awardees Shahab Katukad and Saleha Naz. The embassy felicitated the ex-servicemen and the students who presented the cultural program.
A magazine named “Saman” was also launched on the occasion. A video titled “We for Veteran” was also shown. At the beginning, a video of the message of the Chief of Army Staff of India was also shown. The ceremony was attended by diplomats from other countries, Deputy Ambassador of India Abu Mathan George, Embassy staff and men and women of the Indian community. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Sarabjit Singh.
