India’s Republic Day was celebrated with warmth and enthusiasm in Riyadh despite the cold weather

Indian community comes together to honor the special occasion of 76th Republic Day celebrations at the Embassy.

Riyadh, 26 January 2025 – Despite the cold weather, India’s 76th Republic Day was celebrated with remarkable enthusiasm and zeal at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh. On the morning of Sunday, Indian men and women gathered at the embassy, their spirits undampened by the chilly air or the overcast sky. By 7 am, a steady stream of attendees had begun to arrive.

Flag Unfurling Ceremony

Indian Ambassador Dr. Sohail Ijaz Khan inaugurated the celebrations by unfurling the national flag. This was followed by the singing of the national anthem and a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, marked by the laying of a wreath at his statue on the embassy grounds.

Message from the President of India

First Secretary Dinesh Sethia served as the event moderator, welcoming the attendees and inviting Ambassador Khan to the stage to read the President of India’s message. Ambassador Khan eloquently presented parts of the message in both English and Hindi, expressing gratitude for the attendees’ presence despite the morning chill. He acknowledged the unwavering support from the Indian diaspora and various social organizations, highlighting their invaluable contributions and services.

Cultural Programme

The ceremony culminated in a vibrant cultural programme featuring performances by students from the International Indian School Riyadh, among others. The event was graced by the presence of Deputy Ambassador Abu Mathan George, other diplomats, embassy staff, and a large number of Indian nationals.

The celebration, a fusion of tradition and community spirit, was a testament to the resilient and spirited Indian diaspora in Riyadh.
