Passengers of Flight IX-886 from Dammam to Mangaluru were subjected to over 24 hours of delay, sparking significant legal action against Air India Express. Saudi-based law firm International Justice has served a formal legal notice to the airline on behalf of the affected passengers, many of whom were senior citizens, children, and individuals with medical conditions.

The notice was issued by Adv. Ms. Faten Faiz AlAhmari, partner at International Justice Law Firm, highlighting the prolonged delay, inadequate assistance, and lack of proper communication during the ordeal. The case was initiated by Dr. & Adv. P.A. Hameed Padubidri, an Indian lawyer and social worker in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Padubidri worked closely with Adv. AlAhmari, addressing passengers’ complaints and pushing for justice through legal channels.

Key grievances raised in the legal notice include:

  • Unexplained delay and extended detention inside the aircraft.
  • Absence of proper accommodation or communication.
  • Long waiting hours at the airport without basic support.

The notice demands the following from Air India Express:

  1. A formal apology to the affected passengers.
  2. Compensation for the physical, mental, and financial hardship endured.
  3. A detailed explanation of the delay and measures to prevent such incidents.
  4. Assurance of strict adherence to passenger rights in future operations.

The airline has been given 15 days to respond, failing which legal proceedings will be initiated in courts in both Saudi Arabia and India.

Public dissatisfaction over flight disruptions in the Gulf-India sector has been escalating. Dr. Padubidri commented, “We expected improved efficiency and passenger care from Air India Express under the TATA Group, but the negligence experienced by Gulf travelers has left the community deeply frustrated. If the airline does not address the issue, we will pursue justice vigorously in court.”

This legal action is expected to intensify scrutiny on airline accountability, urging the aviation sector to prioritize passenger rights and humane treatment during travel disruptions.
