RIYADH — March 18, 2026 — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Friday, March 20, 2026, will mark the first day of Eid al Fitr, following the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement came after the national moon-sighting committee convened this evening. As the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted, it was determined that Ramadan will complete its full 30-day cycle tomorrow, Thursday, March 19. This adherence to lunar observation remains a cornerstone of the Islamic tradition in establishing the religious calendar.

In alignment with the festivities, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has confirmed the holiday schedule for the private and non-profit sectors:
- Commencement: Wednesday evening, March 18.
- Duration: Four days of paid leave.
- Legal Basis: In accordance with the provisions of the Saudi Labour Law.
Government Commentary
Mohammed Al Ruzaiqi, the spokesperson for the MHRSD, emphasized the importance of this early announcement for the nation’s workforce and economy.
“The announcement aims to provide clarity for employers and employees ahead of the holiday period. This allows organizations to organize work schedules and ensure operational continuity in essential sectors while safeguarding workers’ rights to the festive break,” Al Ruzaiqi stated.
