NEW DELHI — The Government of India has officially welcomed the release of Indian national Mr. Anilkumar Raveendran, a crew member of the vessel MV Eternity C, who had been under detention in Yemen since July 7, 2025.
Following successful diplomatic intervention, Mr. Raveendran arrived safely in Muscat, Oman, on Tuesday. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that he is safe and is expected to travel back to India shortly to reunite with his family.
Diplomatic Coordination and Gratitude The release marks the culmination of persistent efforts by the Government of India, which had been coordinating closely with various parties to ensure the crew member’s safety and freedom.
In an official statement, the MEA expressed deep gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for its pivotal role in facilitating the release of Mr. Raveendran. The cooperation highlights the strong strategic partnership and humanitarian cooperation between India and Oman.
Background of the Incident Mr. Raveendran, a former army personnel hailing from Pathiyoor, Kerala, was serving aboard the Liberia-flagged MV Eternity C. The cargo vessel became the target of a Houthi missile attack in the Red Sea in early July. Following the attack, Mr. Raveendran and other crew members were initially reported missing, before it was confirmed that they were being detained in Yemen.
End of a Five-Month Ordeal The successful repatriation brings an end to a nearly five-month ordeal for Mr. Raveendran and his family. During his detention, he was able to make brief contact with his family to inform them of his safety, providing much-needed relief to relatives who had been anxiously awaiting updates on his whereabouts.
Indian authorities are now working to expedite his travel formalities to ensure his swift return home.
